Vitamin A and Deworming Program Announced for Children in Nepal

Kathmandu, October 21, 2023 – The Department of Health Service, under the Ministry of Health, Nepal, has announced the continuation of the annual Vitamin A and deworming program for children. This year, the program took place on October 19 and 20, targeting children across the country.

Health assistants administered Vitamin A capsules to children aged six months to five years. In addition to Vitamin A, deworming tablets were given to children between the ages of one and five years. This dual initiative aims to improve the overall health and nutrition of young children, ensuring they receive essential vitamins and are free from intestinal worms.

The Vitamin A program has been a vital part of Nepal's public health efforts since 2050 BS, helping to combat vitamin A deficiency and reduce child mortality rates. The deworming component was added in 2056 BS to address the high prevalence of intestinal worms among children, which can lead to malnutrition and other health issues.

Officials from the Ministry of Health emphasized the importance of these programs in promoting child health and development. They highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for preventing diseases and ensuring the well-being of Nepal's younger population. The programs have received widespread support from communities and have been instrumental in improving the health outcomes of children across the nation.
