An essay on "Education Empowers
Women"
The word "education" has
come from the Latin Word "Educare" which mean "to bring up"
or "to raise" or "to guide". In other words, education refers
to the process of guiding and leading individuals out of ignorance and towards
knowledge and understanding. Through acquisition of knowledge, skills, values
and attitudes, education raises individuals from the world of ignorace and darkness
to the world of peace and prosperity both formally and informally. Whatever the
way to obtain it is, the primary goal of it is to develop individuals to
achieve their full potentials and prepare them as a means of social development
agents. The term empower means to give someone power, authority, or confidence
to do something or in other words, it means, to make someone able to take
control over his/her own life and make decisions for well being. It takes
various forms such as providing access to education, training, employment
opportunity, promoting self confidence and self esteem and advocating for individual's
rights and interests. Anyway, the ultimate goal of empowernement is to promote personal
and social development, increase autonomy and self determination and create a
more equitable and healthy society.
Our society is comprised of both men
and women but women around the world have been denied equal access to education
which prevented them from fully participating in society and reaching their
full potential. In recent years worthwhile progresses have been made in promoting
education for girls and women. International organizations, NGOs, Government
bodies have acknowledged the value of education for empowering them to play a
vital role in development. By understanding the fact that education provides
skills and knowledge to women to get employment opportunities, earn higher
salaries, and become financially independent, these government bodies and
organization are organizing different programs to give all women an access to
education. Education helps them to fight against social evils, to get jobs and
economic support and make them equal to men. Not only this, education makes
them politically, economically, and socially active and raise their voice against
prevailing gender disrimination which as impaired social development since long.
With the help of education, women can become social activists, leaders, social
change agents to create gender equality and social justice. Education also
helps them to obtain same respect and dignity as men.
Overall, education is a powerful tool
that plays a crucial role to empower women and promote gender
discriminationless society. Access to education to women or girls, we can break
apart any barrier that prevent them from achieving their full potentioal. If
women are able to achieve their full potential with the help of education, it
is obvious that healthy society is not far from us.
