Comprehension
Answer the
following questions.
a. What does a
CV mean and why is it important in one’s career?
Ans:- CV or the
Latin term Curriculum vita (course of life) is the single most important
document that contains the record of our personal details, experience and
achievement relating to our working life. It must be up-to-date, accurate and
truthful.
b. Does the
same CV work for all job opportunities? Why or why not?
Ans:- Though it
is our data bank containing the details of personal information along with work
experiences and achievement, there should be a slight modifications targeting
the nature of the job which we are applying for.
c. What are
the different areas where CV can help you?
Ans:- Our CV can
help us in applying for a job, seeking promotion, and trying to bid for
research grants. We also need this to be an external examiner for research thesis, or even it is needed to judge our individual professional competence.
d. What do you
mean by ‘staying CV’ and ‘leaving CV’? Which one would you develop for yourself
as a freshman?
Ans:- ‘Staying
CV’ is the one prepared by university scholars in which professional experiences
and achievements are compiled. In contrast ‘leaving CV’ is the one which is
prepared by job seekers reflecting the interest of the prospective new
employers and such CV shows proofs of competency and willingness of the
applicants judged by the academics.
e. How can you
draft a good CV?
Ans:- Through the
practices following a good basic framework, a good CV can be drafted recording
all our on-going work activities. I draft my CV getting help from my friends,
family, mentors, and experienced colleagues and considering its layout, prioritization and emphasis.
f. What is the
difference between academic CV and non-academic CV?
Ans:- Academic CV is a bit longer
than non-academic CV and it is prepared by academic person including academic
life, achievements and trainings which are true and verified. It can be between
20 to 30 pages for a well-established professor. Non-academic CV is prepared
for public sector or commercial jobs and many be up to two pages long. Even
unverifiable assertions about qualities and skills are listed to draw an
attention of the employer.
Critical
Thinking
a. CV may not
represent a person’s skills and abilities accurately because one’s confidence can't be rendered in a paper. What do
you think the employers should do to find the best people for the job?
Ans:- As we know a CV or Curriculum Vita is a writer summary of a person’s career, qualification and education.
Generally, when we are applying for any job, we prepare our CV and apply for
the job. A well written CV summarize our education, skills, experience and so
on. But some people manipulate employers by preparing an effective CV getting
help from other people. In contrary some people can’t show their actual
ability, skill, and confidence in their CVs because of lack of writing skill. What
we write in our CV may not represent what actually we are. A good employee must
have a positive attitude to work, punctuality, flexibility, verbal
communication etc which are not shown in CVs. Except relying on merely the CV
and covering letter, the potential employers must take interviews with the
candidates. A well-done interview determines if the candidate is the right person
for the job or not. The manner, conversation style, body language, the level of
confidence, passion for the jobs help to find out right person for the job.
Such things should be evaluated while offering some the job just only trusting
in the CVs.
b. If the
employers provide job opportunity by assessing one’s CV, how can fresh
graduates compete with the experienced competitors?
Ans:- CVs plays a crucial role in the
recruitment process in any organization, company and institution. When there is
a vacancy announcement for any post, hundred of people apply for the same job
with their CVs. In the recruitment process, the candidates get scores based on
work experience and academic qualification. Such tradition has been causing the
lowest chances for the fresh graduates. Fresh and experienced compete for the
same job and experienced one has the maximum chance to get opportunity. To get
job for fresh graduates, only organization or office must provide volunteering work opportunity. It is one of the quickest and easiest ways to build up
experience.
